A few weeks ago everyone was going kinda wild about the blue sports car video promo workflow.
So naturally, I got curious how well that same workflow would hold up with something a little less pristine and a lot more specific.
Enter my 2011 Mazda CX-7.
Almost 300,000 miles. Scratches, dents, rust, dirt, cloudy headlights, and bumper stickers... I may or may not have clipped it once or twice while learning to drive a zero-turn mower.
Instead of feeding the AI a polished showroom car, I wanted to see if it could preserve something with actual history baked into it. So I used a handful of source photos, explicitly instructed the AI not to “improve” or clean up the age and imperfections, and ran it through essentially the same workflow as the blue sports car project.
We spend a lot of time talking about AI making things “better,” but I think there is something weirdly compelling about using these tools to preserve identity instead. The dents, grime, scratches, bumper stickers, faded headlights... that stuff is part of the object. Part of the story. I set out to make a quick exercise in pacing and action.

It turned into a man making a series of very bad decisions.

Somewhere in here is a story. Not quite a hero’s journey. More like… momentum with consequences.

Built this as a way to test tone, timing, and how far I can push newer workflows without losing the feeling of something real.

Also confirmed: I should not be in a fight scene.

The result? A showcase of AI’s power for quick, impactful marketing. It’s not just automation; it’s about maximizing efficiency. ⏱️

In just a few hours, these ads went from basic static images to dynamic generative videos, thanks to some good old-fashioned editing and a touch of motion graphics in After Effects.

Are they perfect? Maybe not yet, but progress is evident. Who knows, at this rate, perhaps next week, generative ai will be.
